Hjemve
En smerteblandet længsel efter hjemsted, familie eller kendte omgivelser.
“Hun fik pludselig hjemve, da hun hørte den gamle melodi.”
Sammensat af ‘hjem’ + ‘ve’ (smerte). Samme mønster som norsk og tysk Heimweh.
A new Danish word on your home screen every day, and a little letter game that keeps you coming back for it.
Danish is full of words most of us know but never use: hjemve, solhverv, vedholdende. Vokly hands you one of them every morning, explains it properly, and then makes you earn it.
It started as a word list and a widget. The first real version landed in one push in March 2026: the daily letter game, streaks, hints and a timer, all in the same commit. It reached the App Store at the end of April, and has since grown accounts, friends, a leaderboard and push notifications.
One word. Every day. Spelled from memory.
Every word comes with a word class, pronunciation, a plain definition, an example sentence and where the word comes from, because knowing that hjemve is literally “home pain” is what makes it stick.

The whole loop takes about a minute. That's the point.
Today's word is already on your home screen or lock screen. No need to open anything.
Tap through to the full card: pronunciation, meaning, an example sentence and the word's history. Save it to favourites if you like it.
You get the definition and a pile of shuffled letters. Spell the word before the timer runs out. Stuck? Take a hint.
Solving the daily game is the only thing that moves your streak. Miss a day and it starts over.
Everyone gets the same word, so the leaderboard shows who spelled it fastest today, counting hints.
Straight from the App Store listing.

Home screen and lock screen widgets, built with WidgetKit, show the word of the day.
Spell the word from shuffled tiles against the clock, with hints when you need them.
One solved game a day keeps it going. Only the daily game counts.
Accounts and friend lists, and a daily leaderboard of who solved the word fastest. Backed by Supabase.
A quiz on Danish proverbs, next to the letter game on the home screen.
Push notifications so the word finds you, with their own settings screen.
A native SwiftUI app. The words ship inside the app, so the core experience works offline; the social parts talk to Supabase.
